I have thought about this over the last few years because one of my parents is getting older. Recently, there was a family member that has had serious health issues and I wasn't informed personally. I have always thought that going to the funeral was for the benefit of the survivors and living. Since my inactivity in their religion, they have put the strangle on me, hanging up the phone when I call and rejecting letters and gifts. I don't believe I would attend a funeral at a Kingdom Hall or other place. Not just because of their shunning and my personal pain, the family doesn't want me there. So, fine. Perhaps someday they will recognize their error as their paradise doesn't materialize.

Funeral/Memorial at the Kingdom Hall ... Would you go?
by Wild_Thing inlet's say an aunt or uncle dies.
.
let's say you barely knew them.. let's say their memorial service was held at the kingdom hall.. let's say if you attend, you have to deal with shunning from family and jws, and you are forced listen to them present their paradise promotional materials, and the dead person's "earthly hope™", and let's face it ... the heeby-jeebies of having to be in a kingdom hall again.. would you put yourself through it?

An interesting explanation for the sale of India Branch property
by Ireneus inyesterday i was talking to a witness who has some connections with witnesses in india.
when i mentioned about the plan of selling the branch property, he was saying ‘this is a clever move as they fear a ban in that country as recently happened in russia.’.
this shows what type of trust they have in jehovah!.

Remember when the Mexican Government said that all religions must give up their property to the state of Mexico, Jehovah's Witnesses claimed they were not a religion and were suddenly a "Cultural Organization". The Catholic Church abided and remained a religion. When the Mexican government changed their stance, the Catholic Church legally got their churches back and Jehovah's Witnesses then applied to be a religion.
Who betrayed their God? Who had more faith?

WT Recruiting JW Solicitors (Lawyers)
by AverageJoe1 inwe all know how much the watchtower abhors "higher education" and that apparently jehovah thinks it is a big waste of time.
at least that is their official stance.
it might come as a shock to you that this month they have started a campaign drive to actually recruit jws who have higher education, specifically those who have legal training.. with all the law suits against them for creating an environment that is friendly to paedophiles, it is thus no wonder that they are in need of solicitors, especially those who are sympathetic towards the cult.. talk about hypocrisy!.

"in favor of Kingdom interest"=screw justice and everybody else, find a loophole that we can get our ass out of this sling, demonize the victims and make them the aggressive perpetrators.

Changing Name from Jehovahs witnesses to governing body followers?
by LovingLifeNow infirst off, they are not changing there name.
but i was thinking this morning that it wouldnt be that far fetched to do so.
i mean they could use the spin, " we have so much new light and the times are so close, that we need to be obedient to the fds," there have been many changes in the organization so we don't want to be associated with the old name, but again more then ever we need to be obedient" .

by xjwsrock inthey can smash a glass expressing their disdain for higher education.
where is their anger over child abuse or domestic violence?

WTBTS is more concerned about the Maa word (Masturbation) and pornography (not so much) than Child Abuse. How many WT Videos, talks at the Regional Conventions, Circuit Assemblies, Public Discourses, Service Meeting or Theocratic Ministry School parts have you heard from the platform specifically condemning child abuse? .......Wait for it!!!!! Answer=None, 0, zip, nada!
However, if a girl, boy, woman, or a man touches themselves for sexual pleasure, the elders will need to meet with you and have a special talk, even a scheduled talk on the Theocratic Ministry School or Service meeting about this kind of Self ABUSE! If young boys going through puberty get an auto erection,.... by God, the elders need to know and they need to meet and discuss this. Did a brother or sister accidentally brush their genital organs against something inanimate and feel something, even minor, sexually? Well, you need to have a bothered conscience for the rest of your life.
But Child Sexual Abuse? We need more witnesses! Children Lie, they were born liars, just like Satan the Devil.

But how can we put ourselves in a position to be known by Jehovah?
I'm surprised they didn't go even further to highlight your relationship with Jehovah is relative and based upon the support (financial) that you give to the Governing Body!

(How) Will The Slow and Subtle WT Internal Shift Affect Us?
by Solzhenitsyn inas a "deep pimo" i can say that there is a confirmed re-branding.
the coordinators committee formed a focus group from service and teaching committees.
the results of that group roughly three+ years ago, with gb approval, trickled down to the other committees and eventually into what we have been seeing before our eyes in the org and local congs.. pick an organizational level and see the shift.

If they could just get the brothers who pay for all the gas in those Chevrolet Suburbans to donate the gas money every month there would be an end to the hour requirement.

I'm sorry, I meant to add that with the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses, that it is not only their discouragement of education but the massive amounts of time demanded by the Organization to demonstrate your loyalty. Time, that for the average person would be used generating income or pursuing a score of other beneficial things in their life for their personal benefit and future wealth.

Page 19, par.1 - "Teachers, guidance counselors, or others may have encouraged you to pursue higher education and a lucrative career. Jehovah, however, advises you to take a different course."
In Watchtower Writings, Jehovah=The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society/aka the present Governing Body. Read a study article about the publisher's disappointment that the end has not yet arrived and substitute WTBTS or Governing Body with all references to "Jehovah" in the article. You will then see, The man behind the curtains has a puppet named Jehovah.
There is obviously "something" about "higher" education that with even a few completed courses unravels or at the least diminishes the strength of a cult upon the human psyche.
Yes, it's a disgrace and a disservice to their followers for Watchtower to repeat such garbage, however, it demonstrates wt's selfishness perhaps awakening some.
I don't believe that the University is the magic bullet or ticket for everyone for everything. If you want to make a living seeking an apprenticeship for a professional trade (Not window cleaning) the Unions and others give the opportunity usually with a four-year program. Currently, with the economy as it is, there is a great demand for skilled tradesmen (skills more advanced than residential work (similar to what is used at Quick Builds.) Union members have a livable wage, a retirement pension, and health care insurance as their employer pays for these benefits per each hour worked. There are many roads, I just use this to illustrate.
The Federalist has an article, (http://thefederalist.com/2013/09/23/six-lies-most-people-believe-about-u-s-schools/) Six Lies that Most People Believe about U.S. Schools which I thought was interesting. Joy Pullmann says, Quote:
Lie 6: Practically everyone should go to college
This foolhardy demand rests on the false premise that the point of an education is job preparation. But any good education will treat a student as a whole person and not merely an economic unit. This is particularly important because the U.S. education system exists to undergird our unusual form of government: self-rule.
Nowadays, however, we hear nothing about citizenship, the public purpose of public education.Check your state constitution. Mine says public schools exist because “knowledge and learning, generally diffused throughout a community, [are] essential to the preservation of a free government…” Notice it establishes public education to preserve a free government, not to get people the lifestyles they want. As famed economist Milton Friedman writes, vocational education generally does not create enough of a public good to justify direct government subsidy. “The individual is rewarded in a free enterprise society by receiving a higher return for his services than he would otherwise be able to command,” he says, meaning vocational education primarily benefits the individual, so they should pay for their own education. (Friedman also discusses ways for government to facilitate this for poor people without creating perverse incentives). Ultimately, Friedman agrees with the original rationale forAmerica’s public education systems—that they should exist to provide general education for citizenship.
Nowadays, however, we hear nothing about citizenship, the ostensible purpose of public education. Education subsidies seem to have devolved into a mechanism for getting people enough money to make them happy. We hear things like this, from Oklahoma Republican Gov. Mary Fallin, just last week: “It’s clear that a high school degree is no longer adequate to gain a good job and access to the middle-class life.” Public schooling is considered everyone’s birthright to the middle class. But Gov. Fallin is just wrong. Brookings Institution research recently showed that a person’s chance of living in poverty is only 2 percent if he or she merely completes high school, works full time, and marries before creating children.
The past several years have seen a deluge of demands that a high school diploma now qualify all bearers for non-remedial admission to college. The Obama administration has unilaterally required this of all states using No Child Left Behind waivers. This will only further dilute college academics, because everyone is simply not suited for college. As social scientist Charles Murray writes, “The refusal to confront the relationship between intelligence and success in college has produced a cascade of harms–to many students who try to go to college, to those who do not, to the system of higher education, and to the nation as a whole.”
The impetus that unites these lies is that they promote ideas people want to believe. But lies, however pleasant for one’s peace of mind in the short run, damage people. Those who run our schools say they care about children but year after year they continue to perpetuate systems that are demonstrably harmful to our kids. Those damaged kids will one day grow up to be citizens who are ill-prepared to face our nation’s challenges. The future of freedom depends on our willingness to tell hard truths to our entrenched educational interests and demand accountability for their actions.
